Mr. Hoffman joined Thomas Title & Escrow in 2017 and serves as its Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. Prior to joining Thomas, Mr. Hoffman served as Managing Director, Legal Services (as well as holding Vice President and Secretary positions at its property management companies) for Greystar Real Estate Partners, a fully-integrated, privately held real estate services provider offering expertise in property management, investment and development of multi-family residential properties in more than 40 U.S. states, Europe and Mexico. At Greystar, Mr. Hoffman had primary responsibility for managing all aspects of the legal and compliance service needs for the management services division of the enterprise, including support for strategic and commercial transactions, governance issues, complex litigation management, brokerage and compliance issues. Greystar is the largest multi-family property management services provider in the U.S. following its merger in 2014 with Riverstone Residential Group. Mr. Hoffman held the positions of Chief Legal Officer, Vice President and Secretary at Riverstone as well as serving on its executive management team as a member of its Senior Leadership Group.
From 2006 to 2008, Mr. Hoffman served as the president and principal executive officer on the board of the Vogel Alcove, a nonprofit charitable agency providing childcare and social services to young homeless children in the Dallas area. During that time period, Mr. Hoffman also served as an independent director on numerous corporate boards providing strategic direction and operational oversight to several businesses in the media, cable and telecom industry. From 1992 to 2006, Mr. Hoffman held various board and officer positions at Dallas-based global telecom services provider VarTec Telecom, Inc., an enterprise which, at its height, generated more than $1.5 billion in annual sales. VarTec was nationally recognized as one of the fastest growing privately held companies and Mr. Hoffman served as its founding Chief Legal Officer as well as held positions of Executive Vice President and Corporate Secretary until being named Chief Executive Officer and sole director to lead the company through its restructuring effort and bankruptcy process from 2004 to 2006. Mr. Hoffman started his career as a lawyer in the Washington, DC office of Arter & Hadden, which was a national law firm with more than 500 attorneys in multiple cities across the U.S.
